Genomics Fun Day

On a Wednesday morning,

Yr 7's and 8's had this event called, Genomics fun day.  Our grade leader, Mrs Tele'a had told us about that Glenn Brae and Glenn Taylor was coming to our school for a competition on Genomics.  When the two school visited our block, Skye and Villiami did a prayer.

Then the three schools got sorted to groups.  And that is when the fun started.

Doctor Terry and Doctor Yanni, had organise this fun events for the three primary school. The first thing we did was introduce ourselves, and then we did a rival quiz, i think Glenn Taylor did a wonderful job.  And we did a quiz race and that was the best part so far.  And the winners gets a prize from Doctor Terry and Doctor Yanni. 

It was one of my favourite events as a student at Pt. England!!!

Organelles

In Genomics, we learned about the line on which animals and organelles is the smallest to largest.  Enjoy!!!

Myths and Legends/ Tiki's

In Literacy, we learned about Myths and Legends.  And our teacher told us to do another myths, i did
some research about the Tiki's.  Enjoy!

DNA, Chromosomes and Gene

In Genomics today, we learned about three different types of things that is part of our cells which is, DNA, Chromosomes and Gene.  Here is what we did today:

DNA, Chromosomes and Genes are different but in the same part of a cells.   

The cells are part of our bodies.  And also it is so tiny, you have to zoom in if you are using a microscope.

It make a chromosomes, you need to have 23 pairs.  And each of the 23 pairs of chromosomes are

different. If you have 2 genes, it makes a CHROMOSOME because chromosomes equals a book.

 DNA makes up 4 different types of bases in the DNA diagram.  And those bases are: A, G, C, T. 
And DNA is also part of our bodies.  The diagram of the DNA forms a ladder so A, T goes together so does
G and C.   

Gene comes from the DNA, gene means the chapter, and when the 4 bases comes together they form a
word.  And when the words come together, no matter how many, it forms a GENE

Bases turns into Codons.  Codons turns into Genes. Genes turns into Chromosomes.

The Museum Trip

The Museum Trip

On Friday was a special day because the KPMG sponsored the whole of team 5 to go to the museum. Have you ever been to the museum before.

My First highlight watching the volcano from the past explode in Auckland. My team watched it in a house and once the volcano exploded the house was moving side to side fast as. There were heaps of equipment and instruction to survive.

   

Onions

Monday, 11th

In Genomics, we learned about Onions.  And everyone knows that onions has layers, and then we use the tweezers and we had to peel the skinniest layer that is in the onion.  And then we had to place the onion in the slides, and our teacher, Mrs Stone, had gave us this purple ink to put on top of the slide and then we put it on the microscope.

Me and the group had looked in the scope and then we sketched the experiment in our google docs and what we saw was awesome.  So that is what me, room 4 and 3 did in Genomics today, and I had enjoyed the activity.

Genomics

Last term, Room 4 and I had had did this slide in Genomics and you are more than welcome to look at it, enjoy!

Check cells

In Genomics today, Room 4 and I had learned a new and difficult cells, and it is inside our mouths, in the side of our tongue.  Me and my partner, Jacob, had did what Doctor Terry had told us to do.


Equipment:

- lolly pop sticks
- methylene blue
- sodium chloride
- toothpick
- slide

Method

1, we had to scrap a toothpicks inside our mouths to get some cheek cells
2, after that, we wiped it onto the slide
3, then add sodium water to make the cells more watery and to spread them out
4, add blue dye to stain the cells blue
5 then we looked it in the microscope, and discovered the cells
6 we recorded the entire experiment onto a piece of paper, drawing what we saw
6, than the entire class had to post in the blog



So that is what we did in Science today.In Genomics today, Room 4 and I had learned a new and difficult cells, and it is inside our mouths, in the side of our tongue.  Me and my partner, Jacob, had did what Doctor Terry had told us to do.

First Assembly of the term

On Monday, the 14th of October, the entire school had our for Assembly of the term.  This term will be sad for the yr 8's because it will be our last term, here at Pt. England school.

In the Assembly, the entire school has learned this term's theme, 'Life's a stage'.  At 9:00 am, the entire school had walked to the school's hall, when the prefects sang the NZ national anthem.  And every students had joined in from yr 1 to yr 8.  After that, the principle, Mr Burt, was in some crazy uniform and also had a wig on top of his head.  Mr Burt, Mr Jacobson, Mrs Tele'a and Mr Somerville was sing this song called 'Is it kind'.  It was everyone's favourite song, because when Mr Somerville came on stage, he was on his motorbike!!! The crowd went wild


After that, Mr Burt had welcomed team 1 on the stage, their theme for this term is Fairy tales, they also showed us a little video of Cinderella.  Then Team 2, they will be doing acting, they did a little superhero play, it was nice.  Now, it was team 3, what they're doing was Stop, think and do.  They showed us a video on what to do and not to do, like it is a tap, not a kick.  Or recycle it in the right bin.  What team 4 did was that, (remember last term when I did a blog of the school play?  The toy shop on Zip Zap avenue?)  They like did a recap on that, it was fun.  Now last but not least,  it was team 5's turn, now this was fun, Mrs Ilaoa and the others team 5 teachers said that we will be doing dancing in Inquiry.  The entire school had fun, especially on the first day!

K-pop

Room 4 and I had learned this new type of genre, called K-pop.  K-pop is famous because K-pop stands for, Korean pop music, throughout of Korea likes K-pop because it is a tradition to the country itself.  It is also famous by the type of instrument the country use, and it has different types of colourful backgrounds when they do the video.

When our teacher, Mrs Stone, taught us K-pop, we were pretty inspired by the country, Korea.  Because they use different types of items that are use to celebrate a birthday party.  Korea is one of the creative countries throughout the world.

In the Holidays

My family and I had a alright holiday,

On the first day of the holidays, we had to celebrate my 2nd Aunt'ed s 21st on Saturday, we had a massive celebration later that day.

On Thursday, my Aunt took us to go golfing.  My sister and I had so much fun, and the most funniest thing was that my little cousin just moved his golf ball near the hole, so that he would be the first one to finish first, what a sneaky one.

On Friday, My sister and I went to this youth camp at St Piux.  It was alright, because we all we did was play a few games, pirate command, drama song game, and then we had lunch and we went home at 3:15.

Yesterday, the entire family went to the Tamaki Beach.  We had so much fun, in my opinion this was my favourite event through out this entire holiday.  We played touch, build sandcastle, and we also buried my two little siblings in the sand.

I really enjoyed my holidays, and now i can't wait for the Christmas holidays after term 4.

The Toy Shop

In the end of Term 3, i had a pretty good Term with my new Friends here at NZ.  Next Term is going to be the last Term for the Yr 8's in 2019, I made so many friends.  And my teacher, Mrs Stone, said that we can post one highlight that happened this Term.  

My Favourite part in this Term was, The Toy Shop on Zip Zap Avenue.  In the school play, the entire school had so much fun because it had so many famous toys like, Star Wars, Barbie and Toy Story.  At the end, my friends and I kept on sing the main song, Bernard the Bee.

We had so much fun, hope that all the yr 8's gets to see the school play again, we can't stop sing the song and hope that Pt. England does an other better school play next year, 2020.  

T'was the night before Christmas

My Chosen Holiday: Christmas

Intro: Do know why we celebrate Christmas?  Do you know why Christmas is
important?Well, we  celebrate christmas because that was the same date when
Jesus Christ was born in the first century.  It is very important to Jesus because
he was born by the virgin Mary and he is the father of David. 
The day before christmas, Christmas Eve, is a really special day because
everyone around the world gather together and celebrate the birth of Jesus. 
True fact: The only food we can eat on Christmas Eve are only Seafood.

1. Why is Christmas Religionous?

Why is Christmas so Religionous?  It is because, it was the night when Jesus
Christ, himself was born.  It was a very special for him, because king Harold had
sent the three wise men's to seek for Jesus, but they were wise enough to
disobey the order that King Harold had told them to do.  On that day, the three
wise men's has given gifts to the young boy, Jesus, to celebrate his birthday.

2)  Why do we get Presents on Christmas day?

Now, one of my main questions of why we celebrate Christmas is ‘why do we
have presents on Christmas?  Well, when it comes to Christmas, when Santa,
himself delivers presents to every children around the world, he delivers
presents.  I think he delivers presents is because, remember earlier that the
three wise men's gave presents to Jesus on his birthday? I think that part has
the answers our question.

3) Why did King Harold wanted Jesus dead in the first place?

Now, the moment of truth, Why did King Herod wanted Jesus dead on his
birthday/Christmas?  Because he wanted the throne to himself. When he
found out that God said a new baby will born, Herod was Concerned and
Anxious.  That is how he met the three wise men's, how he ordered them to
bring Jesus to him, how they disobeyed, how they gave three nice gifts to
Jesus.  And some where in 4 BC, that was the death of King Herod because
he died by any terrible illness in one of his kidneys.

Conclusion:

Now we know why we Celebrate Christmas, because of these three question,
1)Why is Christmas Religionous?, 2)Why do we get presents on Christmas
day? And 3)Why did King Herod wanted Jesus dead in the first place? 
1)Because it is the night when Jesus Christ was born, it was very special
to him. 2)Because remember how i said that the three wise men gave gifts
to Jesus on Christmas. 3)Because he wanted the throne to himself and he
sent the three wise mens to killed him but they disobeyed his one and
only order.

Co-ed school is better than a single sex school

Introduction:

Do you feel that Co education schools are way better than I do?  Do you want to socialise with males or
females? Or have you heard of a Co-ed school, but want to go there?  Well I’m making an essay about
that Co-ed is better rather than going to an all boys/girls school, which we call single sex school. 
In this essay, I will give you three reasons why that Co-ed is better. In my personal opinion, Co-ed is
better because going to a school with both genders, boys and girls, can help them Socialise,
Communicate and Making new friends.  Let us begin.

Co-eds schools let us Socialise to one another:

When a boy meets a girl or a girl meets boy, they need to be active, like being social to one another. 
Being Socialise to one another is part of our DNA when both genders gets older and older, like when they
are an adult, so that it can be easier in the future.  When it comes to the future, boys will just be single,
if they go to that all boys school which i mentioned earlier, but it doesn’t compare, if you go to a school
when you go to a BOTH genders schools.  Besides, going to an all boys/girls school could contain way
more drama, that is why I don't go to an all boys school.

When comes to Communicating, both genders needs to be ready:
Like I said before, boys and girls need to be ready when it comes to the future, because communicating
is the next chain of life before becoming an adult.  Being an adult, in the future is a big, massive part of
taking life because you are going to have babies, then looking after that baby/ies till they turn to a toddler,
then a kid then and teenagers and so on.  Another reason why communicating is important because the
more you communicate from both genders, the more you get to know them more often.

Making new friends from a Co-ed school will make a change:

I know we can make friends from the same genders, like boys being friends with boys, and girls being
friends with girls.  But when a boy being friends with a girl or a girl being friends with boys is the biggest
different in the entire cosmos. Because it is also another big thing of becoming an adult, if the friendship
gets stronger and stronger.  Making new friends with both genders is also the big things of life because
it is kind of like practising like transportation, just like a teenager turning to an adult.

Conclusion:

In my conclusion,  you have heard my three main reasons on why Co-ed schools are better than having
a single sex school because 1) Socialising: Being Socialise to one another is part of our DNA when both
genders gets older and older, like when they are an adult, so that it can be easier in the future.

We should have school holidays

Introduction:

Do you ever wanted to have a break from learning?  Do you think you already learned enough?
Well your questions will be answered, when you read this essay. 
Having a break from school is everyone’s dream come true because what if
every kid wanted to spend time with their family? Or Relax in their own time?
Or Refresh their mind for the next Semester?  Having a break from school will be nice for every child 
around the world because they get to do their own stuff during the holidays or school break.

Families comes first:  
Children need to spend time with their families during the holidays because spending time with them means
that you care for more and more. Another reason for spending time with them is that ‘Families comes first’, 
families are way more important than doing your work at school because they were the ones that put a roof
over our heads, feeding us 24/7 and they also give us clothing mostly everyday. We need quality time in the
holidays because the weekends isn’t enough.

Relaxing is every child’s Opportunity:

When it comes to relaxing, it the child's a once in a lifetime to relax rather than coming home from school,
taking a shower, doing your homework and then relaxing at night time.  But that is WAY more different when
the holidays have arrived, students will come crashing through the front door, taking a quick shower, and go
straight to the living room and RELAX by watching their favourite show on television, like Disney,
Nickelodeon and 9 Go.  When every kid around the world relax from school, they will be sitting on the couch
just doing their own stuff, at their own house.

Refreshing for the next semester:
When the children are at home, the second thing they will do after they are relaxed, is to refresh their mind

for the next semester or term because refreshing our minds is one of the important things that kids must do
because what happens if they learn something new and our learning will be really full inside our brain. 
So refreshing is what we need to do when it’s close to the next term or semester.
The reason why im mentioning the ‘learning new things at school’ is because see how we learn a new thing
in one term, and learn another new thing at another term, if we learn different things, we need to refresh our
mind to get all of the information like Maths, English or Science.

Conclusion:

In this essay’s conclusion, now since you have heard my three main reasons, Families, Relaxing and

Refreshing.  Families: Children need to spend time with their families during the holidays because spending

What is inside the Cells?

Today in genomics we learnt what is inside of a cell.
This will explain what the different organelles do:

Nucleus:  The Nucleus is really important to the cell because it is the brain of the cell. 
It also contains the DNA or genetics materials inside the Cells,
for example: What can of cells it will be when the cell is divided into two parts 

RIBOSOMES: The Ribosomes can make things call proteins which enters the cell. 
The reason why they make proteins inside the cells is because new little structures,
repairs damages and most importantly, they direct chemicals reactions. 
Some of these Ribosomes can float free in the cytoplasmic.

CHROMOSOME:  Now in the text, it doesn’t tell us where it does. 
But in the video, it said that the Chromosomes are part like the Nucleus. 
It also said that the Chromosomes is the brain of the cell,
so the chromosome has the same responsibility as the Nucleus.

GOLGI BODIES:  In inside the cells, the Golgi Bodies looks like a stack of pancakes
because it is so crowded if you get to see a real life cell. 
The part of the cell is important because inside the cell, it is the post office in the cell.
What the Golgi Body does is that it takes things like the Proteins from the Ribosomes
or any other molecules from ER, and it post those things where they need to go.

MITACHONDRION:  The Mitochondrion is the second important inside the cell because
it is like the power house that is inside the cell, the reason why there are important
is because they take mostly all the food that is inside the cells and they turn the food into
energy.  The more process they make, the more oxygen enters the cell.

ENDOPLASMIC RETICULUM:  Endoplasmic Reticulum or ER, for short,
it is important in the cell of transportation network that takes molecules. 
It helps the cell because it transports the proteins, Ribosomes,
to another part of the cell which is called Golgi Bodies.

How to be a good son/ daughter

Introduction:  Do you ever wanted to a good son or daughter to your parents? 
Do your parents wish, that one day you will do the chores for them, once in a lifetime? 
Well your in luck, because this essay is for you. Being a good kid to your parents is a lot of hard work. 
My three main reasons are

• To be great son, you need to listen
• Every parent dreams is kids doing the chores
• Being grateful is way more important

To be a great son, you need to Listen:

You need to be a really good Listener because the more you listen the more you are giving your full
attention to your parents when you are trying to do something for your parents.  Another good reason on
being a good listener to your parents is that when you are given instructions by your parents,
you need to listen closely to get the job done and dusted.

Every parents dream is kids doing chores:

Does your parents ever wish that they weren’t the only one doing the dishes?  Well parents, listen up
because this paragraph is for you. We all know that kids least favourite things is to do the chores for
example:  The dishes, Clean the bathroom and walk the dog to the park and back. But I did promise you
guys that we will be good kids in this essay. So when it comes to doing chores, we need to do these
chores because the more you do the chores, the more you don’t get to do them later on, like in the
afternoon.

Being grateful is way more important:

Now we talked about doing chores and being good listening.  Now in this paragraph, this is what each
parent enjoys the most.  It is just like respecting your oldest. When you see your oldest, all you need to
do is to tell them how your day was or try to entertain them. 

Octopus

This week, Room 4 and I have been learning about Octopus in Science.  Octopuses are these animals that lives in the Ocean. The Octopuses has Three hearts,  and one of the hearts are comper-based.  Octopuses are masters of camouflaging, confusing their prey and going through difficult puzzles like mazes.
